Adelaide, South Australia
Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia, strangely not the southern-most state of Australia. While the Adelaide Metropolitan Area takes up quite a lot of space compared to many cities, it is home to less than 2 million people. The city itself (called "the City" by locals) consists of a square mile of offices, shops, entertainment areas and residential spaces surrounded by a green belt called "the Parklands".
Other iconic landmarks exist in the City, such as Leigh Street (pictured left), Hindley Street (red light district), North Terrace (the cultural precinct), and Rundle Mall, as well as its famous sculptures of the bronze pigs and the "Mall's balls". This last landmark gives the SA representative team its name, the SA Steelballs.
During roughly the time of ASC2 and the SA Open, Adelaide is at its finest. The weather is hot and sunny, but is starting to become cooler, and a large variety of events are taking place including the Adelaide Festival, the Fringe, Womad (World Music Festival) and Clipsal (car racing meet). Visitors to Adelaide should also try to find some time to visit Glenelg (beachside suburb), the Barossa Valley (wine making district) or McLaren Vale (another wine making district) if possible.

The Venue: The German Club
The venue for the AusBowl State Championship 2 and the SA Open will be the Adelaide German Club. Located within the Adelaide CBD, it is easily accessible from any location in and around the city. It is a short walk from the main streets of Rundle Mall and King William Street. The address is 223 Flinders Street, Adelaide. Click on the logo to the left to go to the German Club website.
The tournaments will be located upstairs in the Matthew Flinders and Carl Linger rooms (these are joined, not separate) and a bar will be open in the room during the event. A Saturday evening dinner will be served in the rooms that all participants in either tournament (or even from the community who wish to) can attend.
The German Club has four types of German beer on tap at very reasonable prices, along with other local and non-local varieties. They serve a range of excellent German food (I have tasted this fare myself at at least one Oktoberfest) and also provide vegetarian/vegan options, and a more basic roast (for those with less adventurous tastes).
The German Club has everything we need for a great weekend of Blood Bowl. Check out their website for more details regarding location, food and beverage options.
